Moras And Moray Half Day Tour

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO VISIT CUZCO SIDES ” MORAY & MARAS” FAMED FOR ITS DISTINCT BEAUTY, AND INTRIGUINGLY MYSTERIOUS BACKGROUND.

The Salty Road & the Circular Inca Terraces are located, out side of Cuzco city, and in the direction to Machupicchu; the Inka salt mines are unique, from the ancient times to discover it.

Moray

At about 7 kms. to the southwest of Maras is Moray; archaeological group unique in its kind in the region, to where you can arrive by vehicle on the dirt road without affirming or by the bridle path that leaves the town. These are gigantic natural depressions or holes in the surface of the land that were used to build terraces or agricultural platforms with their respective irrigation channels; what draws attention is the average annual temperature difference between the top and the bottom of the depressions, that difference reaches up to 15 ° C in the main depression of about 30 meters deep.

In these formations, nature has created an environment, conditions or microclimates that modern man creates in greenhouses. Moray, due to its climatic conditions and other characteristics, was an important center of domestication, acclimatization and hybridization of wild plant species that were modified or adapted for human consumption. It is, then, a prototype of greenhouse or experimental biological station quite advanced for its time that helped that the American man of the antiquity inherited to the humanity a 60% of the vegetal products that consumes, that the Andean man consumes a thousand and a half of different varieties of potatoes, a hundred and a half corn, and many other rich products. There are still, however, many enigmas about the place, enigmas that are the product of the lack of serious scientific studies to clear up current doubts.

Maras Salta Mines Information

Maras is a district of the province of Urubamba, where it can be reached through a road that starts at km. 50 of the Qosqo road – Chinchero – Urubamba; located to the west of Qosqo at 3300 m.s.n.m. and on a plain that in prehistoric times was a great plateau. From there you can see part of the Urubamba mountain range and the snowy summits of the “Weqey Willka” (today “La Verónica”, 5682 meters) and the “Chikón” (5530 meters). Apparently it was a pre-Kinka settlement with later discontinuous occupation; In this area there are a lot of ceramic fragments of the Chanapata culture, as well as obsidian scrapers and knives.

The town was founded in the colony by the Spaniard Pedro Ortiz de Orué, and its important occupation began when the Cusquenian nobles of the Inkario were stripped of their palaces in the Qosqo and had to leave to settle in other small towns such as San Sebastián and Maras. Likewise, in the war initiated by Manko Inka for the recovery of his Quechua Nation, Maras served as a bastion for the invaders in their incursions against the town of Ollantaytambo occupied by the Inka for 2 years. Many of their houses are emblazoned with noble coats of arms on their stone lintels, which indicates the importance acquired at that time when it was an obligatory crossing point for the muleteers and their mule trains that transported tropical products and especially coca leaves from the high jungle Cusco to meet the needs of the city of Qosqo and the country.
